GOAL:
The goal of the program is to provide a variety of support services throughout the summer months to enable “at risk youths” to continue their pathway to completing their educational requirements through tutoring, counseling, and role modeling.
PARTICIPANTS:
Participants may be:
- Any youth who is a resident of Luzerne County, is economically disadvantaged and/or has real barriers to achieving educational and employment goals.
- The individual must also be at least one grade-level below their current school year as determined by WRAT tests done by the Luzerne Intermediate Unit.
- The individual must also be accepted into the Luzerne County Workforce Investment Development Agency (WIA) Program.
SERVICES:
- Recruitment of eligible participants
- Developing of job foundation skills
- Pre and Post testing in reading and math
- Remedial training services
- Motivational counseling
- Resume writing
- Helping participants make the transition between work and school
ACOMPLISHMENTS:
- Increases in math and reading grade-levels during the summer months.
- Over 90% continued their education the following school year.
- Services were provided to over 2,600 youth during the summer months.
