GOAL:
To provide a variety of support services to enable young parents to complete their
high school education, to be responsible parents, and to become economically self-sufficient.
PARTICIPANTS:
May be:
- Any student who is pregnant or a parent and a full-time high school student in one of the twelve districts or nonpublic schools served by L.I.U. 18 OR
- A pregnant woman or single parent under age 22 who receives TANF or Food Stamps and who does not have a high school diploma and is willing to pursue a GED.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS (1985-2008)
- Comprehensive support services provided to over 4,900 participants
Dropout rate for participants averaged 10% compared to a national dropout rate of 50% for
teen parents.
- Rate of low-birth weight babies is less than half the rate of national statistics for a similar
population.
- 97% of participants responding to an anonymous end-of-year survey indicated they found
Project M.O.M. services to be “Helpful” or “Very Helpful”.
- Follow-up studies of graduates showed 1) They were 2/3 less likely to be welfare dependent
AND 2) The rate of repeat pregnancies after two years is 50% less than national rates.
