Our Curriculum and Instruction staff utilize the following philosophy in the curriculum development facilitation that we provide to our member districts.
We look to the writings of Wiggins and McTighe and their explanations of how learning is to endure over time. In order for learning to be meaningful and purposeful, students must experience it. Wiggins and McTighe suggest for enduring understandings to take hold we, as educators, must take the following components into consideration, such as:
- Transference outside of the classroom and across classrooms
- Encompassing the content area
- Requiring higher order thinking skills
- Providing active learning and an effective model of engagement
